Taylar Jackson, co-director of the Life Sessions department at Bella Baby Photography in Williamstown, sees plenty of economic potential in Berkshire County.
“The Berkshires are such a beautiful place, but you look around and a lot of businesses are closing. Bringing in more young professionals will help the community thrive,” she said.
Through the Berkshire Interns program, Bella Baby Photography welcomed Alyssa Saunders, now a junior at UMass Amherst, in summer 2022.
“We absolutely loved Alyssa. She brought a lot of joy into the office,” Taylar said.
Alyssa handled organizational responsibilities such as researching marketing trends in family photography, designing and pitching a new photography set to the studio, and providing copy for social media and emails.
With her pitch ultimately approved, Alyssa was able to purchase the necessary materials for her envisioned set and implement “a beautiful photoshoot,” according to Taylar.
“Alyssa exceeded our expectations and exceeded how we felt about hosting interns, because the job really spans from detail-oriented data all the way through Alyssa making taglines for the Instagram posts,” she said.
Taylar applauds how Berkshire Interns believes in having participating students experience the workforce setting firsthand.
“I like how hands-on BI is with interns inside and outside of their respective roles. Alyssa brought a new pair of hands professionally, but was also present at BI team outings, which was showcased at the awards night,” she said. (Alyssa won Best Team Player at BI’s annual awards ceremony.)
Taylar describes the program as helping to incentivize students to stay in the area after their education. She graduated from MCLA in neighboring North Adams in 2018.
“The Berkshires have a good thing going, but we need to keep it going. Bringing young and exciting minds to the Berkshires is first and foremost, then putting down roots and starting families,” she said.
