Meet Greta
Internship: Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation
College: UMass Amherst
Last summer, Greta knew she wanted to stay in the Berkshires while laying the groundwork for her future.
Through Berkshire Interns, she found an internship opportunity with the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation (BCTF) that she still considers to have helped set her up for working at a law firm or in the communications field after graduating in spring 2024.
“It was kind of new to me. Project analysts are a widely used thing in the policy field or for figuring out research. I wanted to know what that entails and if being an analyst was a career possibility for me,” Greta said.
Her duties included researching the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on public education, and editing presentations and reports. The BCTF mission is to strengthen “communities through philanthropy and leadership.”
“I worked primarily one job. Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation was reevaluating how their goal was progressing with public education,“ she said. She became very familiar with Excel spreadsheets through the experience.
Today Greta is pursuing a dual degree in political science and legal studies, and looking back, feels grateful for her internship.
“Through Berkshire Interns, I [was able to] stay home and gained great career insight. I did not feel ready to be somewhere else for the summer. I’m not sure if that was the case 25 years ago,” she said.
Greta won Best Overall Intern at the annual Berkshire Interns Award Night to end the program. “I had a great supervisor, Tim Wilmot, and coworkers. It’s not every day you are young in your career or internship and you feel noticed and seen for what you’ve contributed,” she said.
She has also recommended Berkshire Interns to her friends back home and on campus for this upcoming summer. “All and all, it felt good that my work meant something to someone else besides myself,” Greta said.
